Moving and exploring Porto and surroundings

How is the new hometown of Vila Nova de Gaia?

At the beginning of January 2025, I moved from Lisbon to Vila Nova de Gaia in the Porto region. I don’t have any furniture here, so my belongings fitted in suitcases and other bags. The move took place on cheap FlixBus bus trips with the help of my sister.

I moved to the Porto Je T’aime hotel in January, when hotel prices are at their lowest. The intention was to move to a rented apartment or room, but living in a hotel has been continued. Now I’m finally moving into a shared apartment in Porto in October 2025.

I had been to Porto twice before moving here. The first time was a one-night weekend trip, colleague of mine from TP acting as a guide. The second time was on a Finnish group tour led by Mika Palo.

In the hotel I have a private room with an own bathroom and air conditioner. There is a large, shared kitchen, where you can store and prepare food. The metro station is a few hundred meters away. The city is Vila Nova de Gaia, which is located on the opposite bank of the river from Porto. Vila Nova de Gaia is a part of the Porto metropolitan area and is known for its wine cellars, which are visited by tourists. I have taken a tour of the Ferreira port wine cellar in September 2024. @portoferreiravinhos

Since August is the most expensive month in hotels, I moved for a month to Gulpilhares, about 15 km south of Porto. On 01.09.2025 I will move back to Vila Nova de Gaia.

The discovery continues!

Tchau!
